On Monday, May 17th at 6:00 PM, I will be giving an online lecture on how to determine the threading draft for overshot coverlets. If you really want to understand the overshot weave structure and the formation of four block designs, fabric analysis is a good place to start. To learn more, go to Red Stone Glen Fiber Arts Studio website at: https://redstoneglen.com/classes/list/.
I wove my first coverlet years ago by first determining the draft of an early coverlet. Since then, I have analyzed hundred of coverlets. They are a mystery I want to solve. They also form the inspiration for my own coverlet weaving.
The National Museum of the American Coverlet currently has an exhibit with many interesting overshot coverlets. Their coming exhibit has even more interesting ones, many with elaborate fringe. Go to their website at www.coverletmuseum.org/.
Below are photos of the coverlet I will analyze during my lecture.
