Greetings,
I warped two of my big looms recently. On my Toika loom I threaded a 21 shaft tulip pattern that requires four shafts for the tie-downs as described in Judith Gordon’s article found in the Complex Weaver Journal, September 2003, Issue 73 starting on page 46. She included a photo of Marjie Thompson's tulip coverlet. Marjie Thompson was kind enough to bring her tulip coverlet to the Weaving History Conference a couple of years ago and let me photograph it. I took the draft in Judith’s article and modified it to match Marjie’s coverlet and threaded my current warp.
I started out by weaving two runners to test my pattern before I weave samples for the Early Weaving Books and Manuscript Study Group and a couple of throw size coverlets. I really like the pattern. I am not sure I understand how the tie-downs works, but hopefully I will by the time I have woven my 13 yard warp.
Below see photos of Marjie's red coverlet and part of the two runners I have woven.
